Yannick Bestaven

Vendée Globe 2021 winner

At 47 years old, Yannick Bestaven is an experienced figure in ocean racing. He is recognized by his peers and has a complete ocean racing record. Yannick is appreciated for his availability, his commitment, his ability to share his passion beyond sporting performance. Yannick was born in Saint Nazaire, then spent his childhood in Arcachon. He is initiated to sailing from an early age. Hardly finished his engineering studies, Yannick is interested in competition and more particularly in ocean racing. It was during a decisive meeting with the sailor Yves Parlier in 2000, that Yannick launched himself into transoceanic competition by entering the 2001 mini-transat (6.50m monohull) which he won without leaving any chance to the other competitors. At the time, hired as an engineer at the Autonomous Port of Paris, he multiplied round trips to the Arcachon basin where he installed his 6.50m prototype. Talented and determined, he thus built his career between his cap as an ocean racing skipper and that of manager of his company WATT&SEA.
